Protect Women & Children

 In November 2023, abortion advocates launched a ballot initiative which would create a right to abortion in the Nebraska Constitution and allow abortion until birth in our state. The abortion industry and out-of-state pro-choice advocacy groups are funding this venture and began to collect the needed signatures to appear on the November 2024 ballot in Nebraska.

Women and babies deserve better. They deserve compassion, support and the right to life.

In March of 2024, a group of medical professionals countered by forming the Protect Women & Children Ballot Initiative. 

Nebraska Right to Life is in a coalition with other statewide groups who support Protect Women & Children and has worked to educate on this effort and collect the needed signatures. This initiative defends women’s relationship with their doctors, lives of preborn babies & women’s medical health & safety standards.  If passed, Protect Women & Children would allow Nebraska to be the first state in the nation to protect life in the State Constitution.

As of July 2024, the signatures have been collected for both groups and a decision is awaited from the Secretary of State.

In a press release on July 3, 2024, the Protect Women & Children initiative campaign announced that it has been successful in collecting over 205,000 signatures in a record 97 days! We had over 1,200 volunteers collecting signatures throughout the entire state who made this possible.

“All persons shall have a fundamental right to abortion until fetal viability, or when needed to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient, without interference from the state or its political subdivisions. Fetal viability means the point in pregnancy when, in the professional judgment of the patient’s treating health care practitioner, there is a significant likelihood of the fetus’ sustained survival outside the uterus without the application of extraordinary medical measures.”
